Pacific Opera Victoria depends on the commitment and enthusiasm of many volunteers to achieve its artistic standards and a balanced budget. The Volunteer Committee supports artist care, outreach programs, special events, and theatre support, all in support of opera in Greater Victoria.

Volunteers currently support the following Pacific Opera Victoria activities:

A community education and outreach event held prior to each opera. The event includes a lecture about the upcoming production together with entertainment by one or more artists performing in the current opera. Volunteers act as greeters and assist with serving tea, coffee, and cookies. This event starts at 10 am and 12 noon and runs for 90 minutes each on a Sunday.

An opening night pre-opera reception where our guests are greeted at the door, provided with complimentary coat check, and escorted to the reception. Guests are served canapés and wine. Canapés are served by volunteers and wine service is provided by the theatre. This event is on a Thursday and volunteers need to be at the theatre from 6 pm until 8 pm

These are donor appreciation events held at various venues, usually, but not necessarily, in the evening. Volunteers greet guests, take coats and wraps, serve canapés and wine, help keep the venue tidy, and provide other duties as needed. The time commitment is about 3 hours per event.

This is an annual fundraiser and is a gala event. Duties for volunteers include greeting guests, taking wraps and coats, and other activities required by the Special Events Committee. Commitment is normally from 3 to 7 hours.

Volunteers hand out programs to attendees during the run of each opera. Please note this activity requires volunteers to stand for 2 hours.

Volunteers place inserts into programs when needed. Time commitment: 2 to 3 hours on an afternoon. This is a sit down job.

Volunteers put together greeting baskets for the artists and deliver them to the Chateau Victoria. They perform other duties as identified by the Volunteer Committee or Pacific Opera Victoria.
