The Co|Opera|tive invites the community, youth, and artists to think, enjoy, experience, and learn through a series of performances, discussions, films, and workshops. Every opera that POV stages offers an artistic lens through which to explore art in the context of the world in which we live.

A Musical Feast with Ken Lavigne

The Food Bank at St. John the Divine & Pacific Opera Victoria present a benefit for the Food Bank – an intimate concert in an intimate setting, raising funds for neighbours in need.

Master Classes

Deconstruct the art of singing as guest stars coach local young artists. Master classes with distinguished visiting artists feature some of Canada's finest musical artists, selected for their teaching skill and professional experience. Master classes provide superb learning opportunities for early-career singers and allow observers to see exceptional teaching in action. Each class focuses on a particular topic, repertoire style, or voice type. Both the artists being coached and the audience of students, educators, and opera lovers benefits from this unique learning experience.

Dagon

Dagon, (pronounced Dah-GOON) in the traditional language of the Anishinaabe peoples, translates as "mixing things or people together." Ojibwe artist, award-winning author, storyteller and traditional flute player, Rene Meshake will introduce his Ojibwe opera project and take us on a rich journey that fuses together people of diverse cultures using art, music and spoken word.

Coloratura Seniors Concert Series

Coloratura brings opera into retirement residences and care facilities. Emerging singers from POV present free performances to residents who might not otherwise be able to enjoy the live performing arts. Each performance features a trio of singers, accompanied by Robert Holliston, who also curates the session with his entertaining commentary.

Coloratura's programming reflects and is inspired by each upcoming production.

Through Coloratura, POV is able to share opera with the community, showcase some of the amazing vocal talent in this region, and introduce seniors to this amazing art form. Concerts in Care: Presented by Health Arts Societies

Dialogues

Explore themes from opera as they relate to the world you live in today. Guest panels engage with moderator Steve Wadhams, retired producer of the CBC show Ideas in discussions and Q & A. This series connects the issues on your news feed to the operatic art form.

Pre-Performance Lobby Lectures

Ticket holders for each opera performance are invited to arrive early and hear an entertaining introduction to the opera. Robert Holliston, our genial and erudite guide chats about the composer, the opera, and the music. A delightful introduction to your opera experience!

Each pre-show lecture takes place in the west lobby of the Royal Theatre, beginning one hour before curtain. The lecture is free to ticket holders for the performance. No reservations are required. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.


 

Sense of Occasion

Pre-performance reception to celebrate the opening night of each production. Gourmet finger foods and wine. Space is limited. Dress is festive.

6:30 pm in the East Lobby of the Royal Theatre
$35 per person plus your opera ticket.
