POV's 2016/17 season begins with another in our series of productions of magnificent Verdi works.

In the great Verdi tradition of eloquent, hauntingly beautiful music, compelling drama, and discerning exploration of human character, Simon Boccanegra is an arresting portrayal of reconciliation, mercy, and the love between father and daughter.

Libretto by Francesco Maria Piave and Arrigo Boito

Like all the best quests, The Magic Flute is a journey from darkness to light, full of peril and magic.

Prince Tamino teams up with his unwilling sidekick, Papageno, to rescue the princess Pamina, who is the subject of a custody battle between her mother, the Queen of the Night, and the High Priest Sarastro. The result is a scrumptious hodge-podge of cosmic mystery and down-to-earth joie de vivre – along with Mozart's most delicious music.

Based on a celebrated Canadian play by Michel Marc Bouchard, Les Feluettes (Lilies) is a romantic drama of startling beauty.

In 1912 a group of boys at a Quebec college rehearse Gabriele D'Annunzio's sensual play The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian. As a devastating love triangle plays out, one boy dies, one is sent to prison, one becomes a bishop. Decades later, the bishop is made to watch as prisoners re-enact the past.
