Dido and Aeneas

Friday, April 24, Saturday, April 25, 2015, 8 pm
Metro Studio, 1411 Quadra at Johnson

The Victoria Conservatory of Music Opera Studio presents Henry Purcell's masterpiece, Dido and Aeneas. The opera is fully staged in a concept by Pacific Opera Victoria Resident Director Sarah Pelzer.

Purcell's opera Dido and Aeneas was written in 1688 and is one of the enduring masterpieces of the operatic repertoire. The music is passionate, full of variety and simply gorgeous! It tells the tale of Aeneas, a Trojan prince, who has escaped the devastation of Troy and lands in Carthage Queen Dido falls deeply in love with him.

The work is performed by singers from VCM Opera Studio, along with a small string ensemble made up of students and VCM faculty.

Soprano Nancy Argenta has overseen the musical preparation for the performances. An internationally acclaimed interpreter of Purcell's vocal music, she has at various times performed four different roles in this opera!

Tickets: Adults $20, Students/Seniors $10, VCM Students/Faculty $5
