Capriccio, 2010. Joshua Hopkins, Erin Wall, Kurt Lehmann. Emily Cooper Photography

The exhilaration of a night at the opera, the synergy of music, human passion, dramatic action, and visual effects – nothing comes close to the richness and excitement of the opera experience.

The more you know and understand about the opera you are seeing, the richer the experience. The humour will be more immediate, the drama more poignant, the meaning more profound.

POV provides a synopsis in the house programme and surtitles on screen to help explain the opera when you're in the theatre.

We also bring you ways to discover the depth and delight of each opera outside the walls of the theatre.

Pre-Performance Lobby Lectures

Ticket holders for each opera performance are invited to arrive early and hear an entertaining introduction to the evening's opera. Robert Holliston, our genial and erudite guide chats about the composer, the opera, and the music. A delightful introduction to your evening`s experience!

Each pre-show lecture takes place in the west lobby of the Royal Theatre, beginning one hour before curtain. The lecture is free to ticket holders for the evening`s performance. No reservations are required. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
