Colleen Skull makes her Pacific Opera Victoria debut in 2014 in the title role of Ariadne auf Naxos.
Colleen is a frequent performer with opera companies and orchestras across Canada, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company, Highlands Opera Studio, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Manitoba Opera, Esprit Orchestra, and others. A former mezzo-soprano, she has performed the title roles in La voix humaine and Jenufa, Wellgunde in Gotterdämmerung, Waltraute in Die Walküre, Alice Ford in Falstaff, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Agatha in Der Freischütz, Jocasta in Oedipus Rex, Lisa in Pique Dame, Liu in Turandot, and Marina in Boris Godunov.
Colleen has completed her Doctorate in Musical Arts, specializing in voice performance at the University of Toronto, where she was recently a course instructor. Her dissertation investigated a model of factors that lead to the sustaining of elite performance in opera. Colleen won the Graduate Award for the best research paper from the International Symposium on Performance Science where she was a featured keynote speaker. Her research was also featured at the 52nd Conference of the National Association of Teachers of Singing in Orlando. Colleen is a past Canadian Opera Company Ensemble member and has won many awards and prizes including the Metropolitan Opera District Competition, a Chalmers Award and a Professional Artist Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. She is Director of the Community School at Highlands Opera Studio.
