John Robert Lindsey makes his Pacific Opera Victoria debut as Števa in POV's October 2017 production of Janáček's Jenůfa
John created the role of Jonathan Dale in Kevin Puts' and Mark Campbell's Pulitzer Prize winning Silent Night and has performed it with Minnesota Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, and Opera San Jose.
HIs upcoming engagements include Froh in Das Rheingold with Arizona Opera and Nicias in Thaïs with Minnesota Opera, as well as additional performances in the role of Jonathan Dale
In the 2016/2017 season, he debuted at Austin Opera as Ben Marco in Puts' and Campbell's The Manchurian Candidate, a project he was involved in from its inception while a Resident Artist at Minnesota Opera. Other engagements included Monostatos in Barrie Kosky's critically acclaimed silent-movie-style Die Zauberflöte at Cincinnati Opera and his role debut as Narraboth in Salome with the Minnesota Orchestra.
Other recent engagements have included Don José in Carmen with Opera San Jose, Monostatos at Minnesota Opera, and on the concert stage, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, conducted by Sebastian Lang Lessing. During his time as a Resident Artist at Minnesota Opera, John performed Malcolm in Macbeth, Graf Elemer in Arabella, and Ismaele in Nabucco. While an Apprentice at Des Moines Metro Opera, he covered Števa in Jenůfa and Dick Johnson in La fanciulla del West.
A passionate performer and proponent of new works, John has participated in workshops at Minnesota Opera and elsewhere in Sister Carrie, Parables, and Elmer Gantry by Robert Aldridge and Herschel Garfein, The Dream of Valentino by Dominick Argento, and Silent Night. Equally at home on the concert stage, he has performed with orchestra such works as Verdi's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Mozart's Requiem and Mass in c minor, and Handel's Messiah.
He received his Master of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and his Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Colorado State University in his hometown of Fort Collins. In 2015, he was invited to participate in the International Competition for Wagnerian Voices at Bayreuth. He currently resides in Texas.
Lindsey sang Jonathan Dale, a role he created in the Minnesota Opera's world premiere of Silent Night, with sympathetic vulnerability and a blazing tenor.
