Matinée October 27 at 2:30 pm

How better to mark Verdi's bicentennial than with the old man's glorious parting shot – the greatest comedy in the Italian repertoire.

Falstaff is a prodigious celebration of laughter and human resilience, with a miraculous score and a dizzying wealth of melody – it is in every way monumental.

Conducted by Timothy Vernon, directed by Glynis Leyshon, designed by Leslie Frankish. With Brian Bannatyne-Scott as Falstaff, Joni Henson as Alice Ford, Brett Polegato as Ford, Rachel Fenlon as Nannetta, Colin Ainsworth as Finton, and Megan Latham as Mistress Quickly.

ARIADNE AUF NAXOS

Music by Richard Strauss
Libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal
February 13, 15, 21, 2014, at 8 pm
Matinée February 23 at 2:30 pm

The richest man in Vienna is having a party. When dinner runs late, he decides that the entertainment – a tragic opera and a burlesque farce – will be staged simultaneously. Ariadne auf Naxos is a cockeyed take on art, love, and fidelity.

Conducted by Timothy Vernon, directed by Robert McQueen, and designed by Judith Bowden. With Coleen Skull as Ariadne, Suzanne Rigden as Zerbinetta, Arminè Kassabian as the Composer, Bruce Kelly as the Music Master, and Roger Honeywell as Bacchus.

THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO

Music by W.A. Mozart
Libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte
April 24, 26, 30, May 2, 2014, at 8 pm
Matinée May 4 at 2:30 pm

A riotous comedy with a revolutionary subtext, The Marriage of Figaro follows the Almaviva household through a single tumultuous day as Count Almaviva, his wife, his valet Figaro, and his servants spin a tangled web of love affairs, plots, and counterplots.

Mozart's score is an absolute masterpiece, at once sunny and sublime, unrivalled for beauty, grace, and theatrical truth.

Conducted by Timothy Vernon, directed by Brent Krysa, designed by Cameron Porteous. With Justin Welsh as Figaro, Miriam Khalil as Susanna, Leslie Ann Bradley as the Countess, and Phillip Addis as the Count.
